News

As a result of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, CMS developed new quality standards for DMEPOS suppliers. The new standards require Medicare Part B facilities that supply and bill orthotic devices to Medicare beneficiaries obtain accreditation.

The National Board of Accreditation for Orthotic Suppliers (NBAOS) is a newly established national accrediting organization that has been given deeming authority by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to accredit facilities that supply custom-fabricated/made orthoses, custom-fitted orthoses, and and prefabricated orthoses, as well as, walkers, canes, crutches, hot/cold applications, and dressings, to Medicare beneficiaries.

NBAOS is available to assist suppliers in understanding accreditation and completing the accreditation process. NBAOS looks forward to working with facilities that require accreditation in order to dispense and bill orthoses to Medicare beneficiaries.

NBAOS does not accredit facilities for respiratory equipment, manual wheelchairs or mobility devices. Therefore, any facility requiring accreditation in these areas, along with orthotics, should contact one of the other agencies deemed by CMS for accreditation.

Should you have questions you would like answered at this time regarding NBAOS and/or the accreditation process for orthotic suppliers, please feel free to contact us at the address to the side.

Every effort will be made to return emails and phone calls within one business day.
